TARO008

Oil on Calico (Wall Hanging)

Portrait by an unknown artist who was on board the Sub Rosa. He produced many such portraits, discovered only after his death. These works give us the greatest idea of what the inhabitants of Tarogramma are like.

These portraits reveal a sense of tribalism in Tarogramma. Inhabitants often dress in colours of their area. They also wear logos and jewellery to represent their interests and allegiances. As there seems to be no family units, each inhabitant having entered the land at various ages and often alone, these tribes may serve as proxy families. The ghost logo on the man’s clothing is a recognisable symbol of one of the largest family groups in Tarogramma.
